The Portuguese Golden Visa program is showing sizable growth in the volumes of investments, as well as some stabilization at around fourteen hundred Golden Visa issued per year.
The statistics published by the Portuguese Borders and Immigration Service – the SEF – have shown that the Portuguese Golden Visa program has so far raised an FDI worth ninety four million Euros from one hundred and forty nine investors in December – This translates into an improvement of about twenty percent on the month before, and a whooping three hundred percent increase compared to the month of December last year.

After the considerable fluctuations that the Portuguese Golden Visa program had experienced in its early years, the application volumes for the program seem to have stabilized at fourteen hundred a year. In the year of 2018, fourteen hundred and nine main applicants invested a combined eight hundred and thirty nine million Euros, an average capital infusion per applicant being approximately close to six hundred thousand Euros.
Since the inception of the Portuguese Golden Visa program back in the late 2012. the Portuguese Golden Visa has raised four point twenty five billion Euros from a total of sixty nine hundred and sixty two investors, with an average capital infusion of six hundred ten thousand Euros per applicant.
The Chinese nationals, who accounted for four fifths of all Portuguese Golden Visa applicants three years ago, now accounted for only twenty eight of the Portuguese Golden Visa investors in December.Cumulatively,the Chinese nationals now constitute only fifty eight point five percent of all applicants since the beginning of the Portuguese Golden Visa program. However, the decline in the volumes of the Chinese applicants for the Portuguese Golden Visa program is only relative, as there are other countries that have seen their shares of the Portuguese Golden Visa program applicants grow rapidly.
The number of the Portuguese Golden Visa issued to the Brazilian nationals has quadrupled since the year of 2015, while the Turkish nationals, who had only entered the top five nationalities represented in the Portuguese Golden Visa program in 2018, already constitute the third biggest application group.
