Airports
Portugal currently has three major international airports in the mainland. These airports are located one in each of the following cities: Faro, Lisbon, and Porto. In addition to these, a New Lisbon Airport project has already gone underway, that will make travel to Portugal even easier from any other part of the world.
A number of smaller Portuguese cities also have airports of their own, but they are significantly smaller and in most cases they only provide domestic flights. Bus and taxi stops and stations can be found at any Portuguese airport, and these public transport services will take you from the airport to the city quickly and efficiently. Driving
Portugal has a very developed and reliable road network, the total length of which is approximately sixty nine thousand kilometers. Using this efficient road system, you can reach any town and village in Portugal.
The Portuguese driving etiquette mandates that you drive on the right side of the road and, unless indicated otherwise, the vehicles that have priority are the ones that are approaching from the right. The legal driving age in Portugal is eighteen. The speed limits in Portugal are as follows:
– 120 km/h on motorways,
– 90 km/h in rural areas, and
– 50 km/h in urban areas.
The Portuguese law mandates that you carry your driving license and other relevant documents with you at all times, as well as that you use the safety belts both in the front and the back seat, under all circumstances.
– To purchase and drive a car in Portugal, you must obtain a Portuguese driving license by the appropriate requirements set by the Portuguese government.
– To rent a car to drive in Portugal, you must provide and submit a proof of I.D. and a valid driving license.
There are many different options and ways to rent a car in Portugal. All airports and most cities have rental car companies that provide their services. It is, however, worth mentioning that the minimum legal age to rent a car in Portugal is twenty one.
