What
Contributing to these results have been the positive performance of the domestic tourism market again, with an additional twelve point eight per cent of guests – a total of five hundred and ninety-two thousand – and an additional eleven point three per cent of overnight stays – a total of one point seventy million overnight stays in the country of Portugal -, as well as the growth of international tourists with eight per cent increase in the number of guests – a total of one point fifty-eight million -, as well as one point five per cent increase in the rates of overnight stays – a total of six point ninety-one million non-resident overnight stays -.

Another noteworthy contributor has been the Italian market, which has seen a significant increase of sixty-one point five per cent in the number of guests – a total of thirty-two thousand and two hundred -, and a sixty-two per cent increase in the rate of overnight stays – a total of ninety-nine thousand and one hundred -. According to João Fernandes, the president of the Algarve Tourism Region – the RTA -, the tourism industry results of the first semester of 2019 have been positive, mainly because they reflect a growth of income above the existing demand,

as well as the commitment of the private and public operators alike to strengthen the position of the Algarve region on the world map for tourism. João Fernandes has also stated that owing to their joint work, they are able to maintain a good performance in the tourism market of the United Kingdom, in spite of all the uncertainty that surrounds Brexit. He has also added that they have been able to achieve notable growth in the crucial issuing markets such as Brazil and the United States, thus reflecting the effectiveness of the ongoing plans for diversification of the market.
The number of overnight stays in the central region of the country of Portugal has also demonstrated considerable growth with increases in the month of June by eleven point four per cent when compared to the same period in 2018, which represents more than double the national average, according to the central region tourism body – the Turismo Centro Portugal -.
