Raises €86m From 146 Investors
According to the figures published by the SEF in January this year, the Portuguese Golden Visa program is continuing the upwards trend it has started last summer. – One hundred and forty six main applicants – and two hundred and forty one of their family members – have invested eighty five point six million Euros in the Portuguese economy in the first month of 2019 alone. That is an average of five hundred and eighty six thousand Euros, which is a figure well above the minimum investment requirement.
If the rest of the 2019 remains as good as January for the Portuguese Golden Visa program, Portugal can expect to see its own annual records for both investment and number of Golden Visas issued surpassed by around twenty four percent. – On a yearly basis, one hundred and forty six monthly approvals sum up to seventeen hundred and fifty two Golden Visa approvals in a year, which is a figure significantly higher than the record breaking figure from 2016, when the Portuguese Golden Visa program issued fourteen hundred and eleven annual approvals. In summary, the Portuguese Golden Visa program has thus far brought four point thirty five billion Euros worth of investments – ninety one percent of which has come in some form of property acquisition – with average program investment amounting to six hundred and ten thousand Euros. While they are still the most represented Portuguese Golden Visa applicant group, the Chinese nationals have witnessed their share of total existing Portuguese Golden Visa holders fall over the last four years. The data from January of 2015 has shown that they still accounted for four out of five Portuguese Golden Visa recipients. Since then, their proportion has by now dropped to fifty eight percent. Out of one hundred and forty Portuguese Golden Visa approvals granted in January 2019, only a little more than a third – fifty four – have gone to Chinese applicants.
On the other hand, Turkish interest in the Portuguese Golden Visa program and the Portuguese residency by investment permits, has been on the upswing as of lately.
The Turks have just risen into the top five nationalities represented in the Portuguese Golden Visa program, and they have already surpassed the South Africans and the Russians, quickly becoming the third biggest investor in the Portuguese Golden Visa program.
