Great Numbers of European Pensioners Keen to Move to Portugal for Tax Benefits

Increasing numbers of the retired Europeans are opting to move to the country of Portugal in order to avoid paying higher taxes in their own country.
The Spanish nationals are also joining other Europeans in this endeavour.
People that belong to the older than sixty five age group from Spain are now joining the French, the Finns, the Germans, and the Swedish as they retire into the country of Portugal and are beginning to take advantages of the Non Habitual Resident tax program that the country of Portugal offers to expats.
According to a Spanish newspaper – the ABC – the government of the country of Finland has already accused the country of Portugal of implementing the tax breaks and that they amount to “unfair competition”, and now the EU is in the process of reviewing its policy on the member states and their ability and right to offer such tax regimes to other citizens of the member states.
There has been a string of articles published in the country of Spain, which includes the El Mundo newspaper, that trumpet the country of Portugal as one of the best countries to live in after retirement.
The newspaper has stated that the people of the country of Portugal are hospitable, that the cities of the county of Portugal are attractive especially highlighting the cities of Lisbon, Braga, and Porto, and it also mentions the vast rural landscape, the healthy cuisine, and the wild unspoiled coastlines that the country of Portugal can take pride in.

The ABC newspaper has stated that moving to the country of Portugal means saving thousands of euros in tax payments. The newspaper has given an example of a Spaniard with a one point five million Euros worth of income paying forty eight percent tax in the country of Spain – which would amount to seven hundred thousand Euros – while in the country of Portugal, on the same income, the Spanish citizen would pay just twenty percent in taxes – which would amount to around three hundred thousand Euros -.
